Alpine Ski Team Wins CWOSSA

Congratulations to W-O’s Girls’ Alpine Ski team on winning Gold at CWOSSA on Thursday, February 16 at Beaver Valley! Also, congratulations to Alex Rynard on earning Silver in the Individual Level One Girls’ Race. Best of luck to the team as they head to OFSSA next week.

Waterloo-Oxford DSS DECA Results

From Thursday February 9 to Saturday February 11 W-O’s DECA Provincials qualifiers, and leadership academy participants traveled to Toronto for the DECA Ontario Provincial competition. Over 7000 students from across the province attended and competed in case competitions, multiple choice testing and participated in leadership development workshops. The 21 competitors from W-O qualified to compete based on their performance in November’s Regional Competition at SJAM. All attendees were wonderful examples of W-O Excellence, and gained invaluable business and networking experience. Congratulations go to Peter Behnke, a grade 9 student, who placed in the Top 15 for his event’s test portion at this Provincial Competition. Applications for next year’s W-O DECA Executive will be available next week as we start planning for next year’s chapter and competitions.

W-O Student Recognized at Rangers’ Game

Waterloo-Oxford student Amy Darkes was chosen to drop the puck at the Rangers’ game on Friday, February 10 at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium in honour of winning the the 2017 Pink Shirt Design Contest. Amy entered The Waterloo Region Record and The Newspapers in Education contest to design the 2017 Pink Shirt Logo and created the winning entry. Amy’s design and signature are on this year’s Pink Shirt Day T-Shirt and as the contest winner, Amy received Rangers’ tickets and was recognized at the Friday night game.  W-O will wear pink on February 22 to show support for ending bullying and that kindness matters.

Course Selections for 2017-2018 due by February 17, 2017

All current Waterloo-Oxford students are to complete their course selections for next year by Friday, February 17. Students can choose their courses online by going to My Way located on W-O’s website. Instructions are available at: wod.wrdsb.ca./guidance/course-calendar/

Guidance counsellors have been visiting English classes over the past few weeks, discussing course selection options for the 2016-2017 school year. If students have any questions, they are asked to see their Guidance Counsellor. Alpha assignments for Guidance Counsellors are listed below, with the counsellor’s phone extension.

Alpine Ski Team Brings Home WCSSAA Silver

Congratulations goes to our Alpine Ski Team for their silver medals at WCSSAA. Alex Rynard won silver for Level One Individual Female racers, and our girls won silver in Level One Team results. The team competed in WCSSAA at Beaver Valley on Thursday, February 9, 2017. Best of luck next week at CWOSSA!
