On January 3, 2022, the Ontario Provincial Government announced that all of Ontario would move into remote learning until at least January 17, 2022, in a bid to curb climbing COVID-19 case numbers

Based on direction from the Ministry of Education, starting January 5th, 2022, our secondary students will begin the new year learning remotely from home and our schools will be closed to students during this time.

Wednesday, January 5, 2022, until at least January 14, 2022:

For Waterloo Oxford students currently enrolled in In-Person learning, teachers will pivot to remote learning during the period from January 5 -14, 2022.

  • On Wednesday, January 5, 2022, all W-O teachers will connect with students synchronously and/or asynchronously to welcome, reassure, set direction, and provide learning opportunities.
  • The remote learning day will follow the current modified semester daily schedule.
  • During the remote learning period, teachers will provide a variety of learning opportunities including whole-class learning, small-group conferencing, and live teacher support to answer student questions and provide individual/small group instruction, demonstrations, or tutorials.

Attendance for Secondary Students:

  • Teachers will be taking attendance during each learning block (class) based on student participation in synchronous or asynchronous learning, or login confirmation.
  • Students will be marked present if they have contact with the teacher during the assigned class time (email, virtual meet, phone call) or participate through an asynchronous login, submission or interaction.
  • If no communication or participation occurs during the assigned class time then the student will be marked absent
  • W-O students are equipped with devices and the ability to connect remotely so if ongoing communication attempts are unsuccessful, this will be reflected in the student’s attendance.
  • If your student is going to be absent, please call 519-634-5441 and press 1 for attendance or email wod-attendance@wrdsb.ca. Please be sure to include the student’s name, your name, and relationship to the student, date of absence, and the reason for the absence in your email or voicemail message.
