May 3rd, 2020

It is with a very heavy heart that the Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School community mourns the loss of Mr. Fred Stein, as the result of a heart attack on May 3rd, 2020. Mr. Stein joined WODSS on September 1, 2011, where he taught in our Technical Education department. He was one of the founding staff members of the Waterloo- Oxford Electric Vehicle Club and was also a coach of the Junior Football during his time at W-O. Mr. Stein supported his colleagues in many ways, including in his role as the OSSTF W-O Staff President.

Mr. Stein was a compassionate and caring teacher who was dedicated to supporting all of his students. In his classroom and extracurriculars, he created inclusive environments where all students felt welcomed and valued. Mr. Stein was always upbeat and positive. He truly left W-O a better place than he found it. Mr. Stein will be sadly missed by the students and staff of Waterloo-Oxford DSS.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Barb and two sons Brett and Matthias.

Along with our Guidance Counsellors and Administrators, members of the Board’s Critical Events Response Team have been consulted to support our students and staff.

Please check in with your child in the days to come. If you have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact me via email to discuss support.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Salonen

Principal
