Grade 9 Course Details

PPL1OI • Healthy Active Living | Open, All Genders

This course is for students of all genders. This course focuses on less competitive recreation and leisure concepts with an emphasis on leadership, cooperative games, and healthy active living.

PPL1OX • Healthy Active Living | Open, Female

This course is for female students only. A focus on team and individual game activities.

Prerequisite: NONE

PPL1OY • Healthy Active Living | Open, Male

This course is for male students only. A focus on team and individual game activities.

Grade 10 Course Details

PAF2OX • Fitness Activities | Open, Female

This course is for female students only (Live Fit). This is a fitness-based course where the students work on improving their personal fitness. Students may take more than one credit in Healthy Active Living in grade 10.

PAL2OX • Hockey Skills | Open, Female
PAL2OY • Hockey Skills | Open, Male

Hockey Canada Skills Academy is open to all female and male students with an interest in developing their hockey skills.

You may be an experienced hockey player, ringette player, skater, or someone who has not had the chance to play hockey before and always wanted to! With an emphasis on skills development, the course is about giving everyone the chance to grow together. It is not connected to any local or school team. This program will allow students the opportunity to earn a Grade 10 Health and Physical Education credit, while also earning Grade 10 Civics and Careers credits. The Civics and Careers component will focus on government policy and career options in the area of sports and athletics.

The estimated cost for the program (including 70 hours of ice at Wilmot Rec Complex, Hockey Canada program fee, jersey, professional power skating and skills instruction) is $430. See Mr. Hambly for a complete information package. Students cannot take both PAL2OX/PAL2OY and PPL2OX/PPL2OY.

PPL2OX • Healthy Active Living | Open, Female

This course is for female students only. Provides a continued focus on team and individual games. Students may take more than one credit in Healthy Active Living in grade 10.

This course is for male students only. Provides a continued focus on team and individual games.

Grade 11 Course Details

PAF3OX • Fitness Activities | Open, Female

This course is for female students only (Live-Fit). Students work predominately in the fitness centre focussing on all aspects of personal fitness. Students may take more than one credit in Healthy Active Living in grade 11.

This course is for male students only (Cross Training). Students may take more than one credit in Healthy Active Living in grade 11.

Grade 12 Course Details

PLF4MI • Leadership Gym | University/College

Students may take this course in Grade 11 or 12. The focus is on the development of leadership, organizational and team-building skills related to fitness and recreational activities. Students will lead the class through various activities including teaching the skills involved in a certain sport and how different styles of tournaments are run. This course enables students to explore the benefits of lifelong participation and to develop the leadership and coordinating skills needed to plan, organize, and safely implement recreational events. Final admission will be based on successfully completing the application for the course.

Prerequisite: Any Health and Physical Education course.

PPL4OI • Healthy Active Living | Open

This course is for female and male students. Students may take more than one credit in Healthy Active Living in grade 12. This course can be taken without paying a course fee. However, students can select optional units that require a fee for instructors / off-campus facilities. The fees for these optional units are on the Unit Selection Sheet. Students are responsible for transporting themselves to and from off-campus units.

PSK4UI • Exercise Science | University

This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual’s participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration.

Prerequisite: Any Grade 11 U or U/C prep course in Science, or any grade 11 or 12 open course in Health & Phys Ed
