At Waterloo-Oxford, we want to make sure that our students get off to a strong start this year. We want to focus on learning and establishing an atmosphere in which every member of our school experiences comfort, safety, and belonging.
This week in homeroom classes, teachers will be sharing our “Gator Guide” that outlines 7 expectations for student behaviour in classrooms, hallways and other indoor spaces, and on our school grounds. These 7 rules include:
- Be on your way – do not congregate in our hallways or washrooms
- Be on time – arriving to class after the bell is late
- Take pride in your school – respect the school environment and staff
- Show kindness – contribute to a positive school environment
- 5 minute limit – breaks should be less that 5 minutes
- No phones during class time – phones are off and away during class time
- One at a time – only one student out of class at a time
School staff have committed to supporting students in making better decisions and consistently reinforcing these expectations through some common actions that are shared with students. Please find linked here the Starting Strong Slides that we will share with students this week.
We appreciate any support that you could provide, including having a conversation with your student(s) about this information. Be assured that medical, IEP, and safety plan accommodations that require students to take breaks will continue to be supported.
As we begin this new academic year, remember that your teachers, counselors, admin team and staff members are here to support you every step of the way.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your student’s teacher, VP or guidance counsellor.
