Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome to a brand new school year at Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School! Whether you are joining us for the first time or returning to continue your journey, I am thrilled to welcome each of you to our vibrant and supportive school community. Our first day of classes for all students is Tuesday, September 8th, 2026.

At Waterloo-Oxford, we take great pride in fostering an environment where students are encouraged to grow not only academically, but also as thoughtful, engaged citizens. Our dedicated staff are committed to creating inclusive, respectful, and inspiring classrooms that support all learners in achieving their personal best.

This year brings new opportunities for learning, leadership, and connection. We’re excited to continue offering a wide range of programs, clubs, athletics, and activities that make school life at W-O rich and meaningful. I encourage every student to get involved, try something new, and take advantage of all the experiences that make high school memorable. We will be hosting an Assembly on Friday, September 11th, to provide all students a chance to learn about the extracurricular programming offered at the school. 

Construction Update 

Due to ongoing construction in the school, several area’s will be off limits at this time.

Closed Areas

  • 500 Section: Main hallway blocked completely – please use the music wing as a bypass.
  • Back Parking Lot Entrance: Standard entrance by the caf is closed.

Active Access Points

  • Bus Students: Enter via the regular bus turnaround doors.
  • Back Parking Lot Arrival: Use either the Tech Department doors or the Port-a-pack doors.

Student Drop Off and Pick Up 

Reminder that student drop off and pick up is at the back of the school. Please do not use the front driveway of the school. 

The First Day, Tuesday, September 8th

Grade 9 Students:
All Grade 9’s will come to the main gym when they arrive at school on Tuesday morning. They will meet with their homeroom teacher and class and walk to their homeroom together.   

Grade 10-12 Students:
For students in Grade 10-12, alphabetical homeroom lists will be available on Tuesday morning. They will be posted on the walls outside the sports hall, library and tech hall. Individual timetables will be handed out in homeroom class.

Lockers:
Lockers will be available during the first week of school. Please bring a lock with you on the first day. More information will be provided next week.

Data Verification Forms (Student Emergency Information)
A copy of this form will be provided to your student on the first day. This form verifies your student’s information, as well as your contact and emergency contact preferences. Please review the information and return to the school by Friday, September 11th, 2026.

Photo Day
Photo Day will be taking place on Tuesday, September 15th, 2026 in the small gym. All students are required to have their photo taken, however, the purchase of photo packages are optional.

Student Transportation: Do Not Ride

The Do Not Ride Form must be completed annually by parents/guardians of students who qualify for busing but will not ride because the parent/guardian has made alternative arrangements. If not already completed, and qualified transportation is not required, please complete the online form and submit to Student Transportation.

Bus Parking Map

Please have your student refer to the afternoon bus parking map so they know where to pick up their bus at the end of the day.

Forms to be completed on School Day 

Please log into School Day and search for Forms, to complete the following:

  • Media Release Form:. An explanation of these routine uses and disclosures are outlined. 
  • Responsible Use Policy Form: Digital Citizenship refers to online behaviour. The WRDSB has developed a Responsible Use Policy (RUP) Form which is also available on School-Day for parent acknowledgement. The RUP aligns with our school community standards of behaviour, and sets expectations for staff, students, and parents/guardians.  
  • Concussion Code of Conduct Form: The Waterloo Region District School Board has also developed a Concussion Management Procedure to support our students and coaches in dealing with concussions. 
  • Medical Information: If your child has a recently diagnosed medical condition (e.g., anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy/ seizures or requires prescribed medication during the school day), please contact the school office as a Plan of Care may need to be developed. If your student has a previously diagnosed medical condition, a paper copy of the Plan of Care will be sent home for review and parent’s signature.

And finally, to our parents and caregivers—thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we can help our students navigate challenges and celebrate successes throughout the year.
