The WO school community is incredibly saddened to share with you the news that Tod Hunter, Head of the Custodial Department here at WODSS died on Friday, February 4th, as the result of a pre-existing, but unknown, medical condition. Mr. Hunter joined the Waterloo-Oxford family in June 2000, and was an integral member of the staff team. Mr. Hunter’s main priority was keeping the school clean and safe for students and staff. He was also involved in so many WO events such as Grade 9 nights, musicals, parent-teacher interviews, and truly more than we can mention.

We will miss Mr. Hunter’s compassion and care, he was a big part of our WO family. Mr. Hunter’s dry wit and tell it like it is personality kept us on our toes and smiling. He also loved to read and write poetry and appreciated all forms of art.

Our thoughts are with Tod’s spouse A. Wlad, his mother JoAnn Hunter, stepfather Blake Smail, brothers Jeff and John Hunter.

Our Guidance Counsellors, Administrators and members of the Board’s Critical Events Response Team will be available to support students and staff.

In honour of Mr. Hunter the flags at Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School and the Waterloo Region District School Board will be flown at half mast this week.

Please check in with your child in the days to come. If you have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact me via email to discuss support.

Sincerely,
Carolyn Salonen
Principal
