The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) will be written Tuesday, April 10 from 8:20 – 11:30 a.m. Please note that no electronic devices (phones, laptops, i-pods, tablets, etc) are allowed in the test room (leave them at home or in your locker).

The test will be written by all grade 10 students and any senior students who have not been successful on the test in a previous year. Alpha lists by surname will be posted in the main foyer indicating room locations.

There will be no formal classes following the test. Teachers will be available in designated department classrooms from 12:30 – 2:24 p.m. for any students seeking extra help.

In order to create a positive environment that will optimize the conditions for successful completion of the OSSLT, the instructional school day has been modified for all students at WODSS. The following is the timetable for April 10:

8:20 a.m. – 11:55 a.m. Literacy Test

11:55 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Lunch

12:30 p.m. – 2:24 p.m. Tutorial Sessions

It is important to note the following about the day’s structure:

• Students who are not writing the test will only have access to the cafeteria while the test is in progress, for quiet, independent study. As many school staff will be administering the test, no regular classroom instruction will take place in the morning.

• The library will be unavailable during the whole day because this space is required to support the administration of the test.

• School buses will run at their regular times.

• When the test period is complete, teachers will be available to provide all students with tutorial assistance in all subjects and at all grade levels. Teachers will announce to their students, and post in their classrooms, the location for their tutorial sessions.

• Regular attendance reporting procedures remain in effect for this day. Any student who does not attend school will be marked absent.

These adjustments have been made across the Waterloo Region District School Board in order to facilitate the administration of the OSSLT in a manner that provides for the best conditions possible for the students who are writing. If you have any concerns or questions regarding the Literacy Test, or the schedule for April 10, please contact Carolyn Salonen, Vice Principal.
